Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a neuro-degenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. There is no known cause and no cure. Currently, there is one FDA approved drug to treat the disease. ALS Therapy Development Institute is the largest ALS research facility in the World, dedicated to the discovery of treatments and therapies for the disease.

Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with ALS.
Every 90 minutes ALS claims another life.

ALS relentlessly attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. When these cells die, voluntary muscle movement dies with them. The average life expectancy of a person with ALS is only two to five years from time of diagnosis. About 20 percent live up to five years, and up to ten percent will survive more than ten years. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.

ALS Napa Trek provides support for our most urgent goal – to create treatments and therapies for people with ALS and their families throughout California.
